Estée Lauder Nutritious Vitality8 Night Radiant Overnight Creme/Mask Review

Price: HKD580 (RRP) | HKD493 (Sasa)
Volume: 50ml

Being the night-time counterpart of the Nutritious Vitality8 Radiant Moisture Cream, the claims are for your skin to be the following after eight days of use:

  1. Nourished
  2. Hydrated
  3. Energized
  4. Calmed
  5. Supple
  6. Refined
  7. Smoother
  8. Radiant

Housed in a darker jar than the Nutritious Vitality8 Radiant Moisture Cream, image the Overnight Cream — or essentially, the night cream of this line — has a dual purpose to function both as a cream and a sleeping mask.

The night cream is of a gel-cream texture that’s creamy smooth upon application and it fully absorbs into the skin without leaving behind a greasy or oily residue. It has a subtle sweet pomegranate scent that’s very light and refreshing; in addition, it may be lightweight on the skin, but it is indeed highly hydrating — even more so when I paired it with my ANR II Face Serum (blog link). I used a loonie-sized amount to cover both face and neck and kept my skin well-hydrated overnight.

As a general rule, I don’t like sleeping with an air-conditioner on but for the sake of testing this product out, I put this cream on at night after my usual Micro Essence and ANR II routine, and went to sleep with the a/c turned on for the night in my room. I woke up in the morning to see that my face was neither greased up — as a result of a super heavy moisturizer that didn’t sink into my skin but instead just stayed ON it — or dull and flakey; my skin just looked…like how I did when I first put on the moisturizer the night before. I was curious so I tried this the next evening, only this time I amped it up a bit in terms of the amount so that I could try out its mask properties and I turned on the a/c.

As a side note here, I normally don’t like sleeping masks (aside from my trusty Origins one) as I usually wake up with a small break out (if I’m lucky) or a number of small pimples on various parts of my face from the mask having clogged up my pores. Le sigh.

The morning after, my face looked a teensy bit shinier but DAMN. I was glowy. Was I sold? Not quite yet, so I used the night cream religiously every night, changing up the environment in my room when I sleep (i.e. a/c or fan or nothing at all). I still woke up with glowy skin and…nary a new breakout in sight.

All in all, I’m still decidedly Team Lauder with this night cream (and subsequently, the Nutritious Line); if I were to take either the Nutritious Vitality8 Radiant Moisture Cream or  Nutritious Vitality8 Night Radiant Overnight Cream on a trip (aside from the cumbersome tub-and-no-spatula situation for both), I would actually be okay with bringing the Overnight Cream only. There’s no SPF for the day cream to begin with, and I can alternate the amount of hydration that I need based on the amount of cream I scoop out and use; of course, the fact that the Overnight Cream can pull double-duty as a mask makes it an awesome bonus 🙂 This is entirely a personal preference and for some of us, yes, it would be better to have a separate day and night cream; if budget is an issue and you could only choose one, I’d go with the Overnight Cream 🙂
