Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Review

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation

Bobbi Brown Counter: HKD350
Shade: Beige 3
SPF: 15
Volume: 30ml/bottle2015-07-24 18.44.03

This is one of those times where I should not have trusted the MUA at the Bobbi Brown counter.

I was shopping as per usual and I perused through the counter; I saw the skin foundation and I wanted to give it a shot, given its lightweight but buildable consistency and skin-like look afterwards. I was shuttled through the colour selection and between Sand 2 and Beige 3, the MUA rattled on about how the foundation will look different under the store light and in daylight outside; as such, I was colour-matched to a Beige 3. I left the store slightly unsure and frazzled as the MUA pushed the foundation into my left hand, my credit card in my right, and sent me on my merry way.

When I tried it the next morning and looked at it at the end of the day, factoring in potential oxidization and everything, I should’ve gone with my gut instinct. It made me look yellow. Christ almighty, she matched me to a more yellow-toned foundation when I have a more neutral-cool undertone. ARGH.

At my time of frustration, Mama Cappuccino waltzes by and asks, “why don’t you just add a drop of foundation that is lighter than what you have right now, so you don’t have to waste it?”

It was like a million light bulbs turned on. Plus, when Mama Cappuccino notes that I would “waste” it, she means the times when I banish products to the Land of All Lost Cause. It’s not a happy place when I think of all the money that was wasted and it sends me into a downward spiral of depression. 😦

Mama Cappuccino follows up with, “Oh, I have a bottle around here that you can have. It’s too dry for me but maybe it’ll be okay for you”. She whips out the Le Metier de Beaute Classic Flawless Skin Foundation. DOUBLE SCORE. Review to follow later on. 🙂

Shade aside, the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation does live up to its skin-like look and lightweight but buildable consistency. However, with such a low SPF 15, I would strongly recommend making sure that you have enough SPF protection in your other facial products, such as your primer/base or daytime moisturizer, to make sure that you have sufficient sun protection. I personally use the Bobbi Brown CC Cream (SPF 30) or the Bobbi Brown SPF 50 Base – depending on the weather, my skin condition and my general activities for the day – before applying the foundation. To top it off, I would either dust on a loose powder or use the Bobbi Brown Powder foundation, but with a light hand; the powder foundation will make your overall look thicker for those who don’t like a heavily done look or more flawless to those who are okay with it. It doesn’t, however, look cakey even in that situation.

All in all, I would repurchase this product once I finish it, but in the right shade 🙂Screen Shot 2015-07-03 at 10.57.40 pm

It took me 3 times to get matched and I was always matched wrong, but I have 3 Bobbi foundations in 3 Beige, and hesitant to try Warm Sand or Warm Beige. But love her foundations! I am so eager to get this soon :3

      Hello Aaron!

Bobbi Brown’s foundations are definitely HG status — it’s just the luck of the draw with who helps out with colour matching 😦 I’m going to try and find an SA who’s a little more experienced with colour matching and hopefully I’ll have better luck with that 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by ❤
